Haterz gonna hate...
Look I live across the street from this thing for like 5 years so I feel like i should chime in.
1. Can we please stop talking about SPLOST no one in Atlanta wants to pay one red cent more in taxes period. That shit is done, they need to manage their budgets better if they need capital the end.
2. I think we have enough memorialization to MLK, the school doesn't need to be a land mark. If you want to put up a plaque go for it. But with the street car, the new Ebenezer Mega church, the MLK center itself, the national park around his house (where I actually live), and the HOUSE itself i think we have all bases covered. If anything id like to see the Natatorium re-funded and reopened.
3. Im from New Orleans originally, and there are schools literally everywhere... its a big deal where you went to high school in NOLA like its one of the first things people ask you when they meet you, in Atlanta there are a serious lack of schools which I think leads to a break down in the social structure of communities. Honestly I just think white folks who send their kids to school in inman park get weirded about sending kids to school in what is precieved as an 'all-black' neighborhood. Shrug.
4. Honestly they should just turn it into green space for the neighborhood or sell the space to commercial enterprise, something that would at least enrich the community financially
OMG Atlanta City government! Instead of finding new ways to tax people, fulton county should learn how to better manage its own fucking budgets. Its like how much more can you expect a person making under 35,000 dollars a year to pay just to park to go to work. Every year I read about missing funds or failed social engineering projects, like seriously do we need federal oversight in a city as wealthy and prosperous as Atlanta?
