Re: “Five Atlantans dedicate their lives to becoming Master Sommeliers

Thank you for this article, Stephanie! I wish all the Atlanta sommeliers you profiled much success in their future careers and success on their MS Exam. I am merely one-quarter down this rabbit hole (passed my Intro last year, choked at the Service part of my Certified this year), and am intrigued and inspired by others who are working towards the same dream.

Having said that . . .

(Yes, I know I am deliberately inviting Flame Bait).

Wine is not a Grid. Wine is not Jeopardy! Wine is not ESPN.

When we turn it into those things, I believe we have lost something indefinable but priceless.

I saw the Somm movie twice. Again, was very inspired by those four guys and all the work and sacrifice they made. But by the end, I also felt incredibly sad for them. Can they ever simply sit back and enjoy a glass of wine without the need to break it down within an inch of its life?

I would love to discuss this from those folks in the biz who have read this article or seen the movie. Again, I admire your drive and persistence, but from here in the balcony, there are times it seems a bit . . . much. What am I missing here? Let’s talk!
