Reunion builds on ATL rockers psychedelic past
            by Christopher Hassiotis
Four graying guys reforming a rock band four decades after its peak is a tried-and-true nostalgia trip, but the members of Atlanta's long-defunct Radar are convinced they've got something unique to offer. They're at a point in their lives when everything is coming back full circle, one more time.…

The Cosmic Psychos announced today that the group is set to make a rare Atlanta appearance on at the Earl on Thurs., Sept. 26. Since forming in 1982, the legendary Australian punk trio has mixed wah pedals with '70s punk, and in the process became one of the strongest trestles in the bridge between CBGB's and grunge.…

Word made its way across the Internet yesterday: Atlanta DJ and trap and bass music fixture HPNTK (Chris Tanner) took a stray bullet outside of Connect Lounge on May 15. Details are still coming together, but at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, an argument broke out near the entrance to the Auburn Ave. club, which erupted in gunfire.…

Having been almost totally quiet since 2009's self-released Fate to Fatal EP, the Breeders return playing songs from their now two-decades old breakout Last Splash LP. To celebrate, the band reformed with its most known lineup - twin sisters Kim and Kelley Deal, Jim Macpherson, and Josephine Wiggs - to perform the album in its entirety along with ephemera from the lineup's golden era, including potential covers of Guided By Voices, Sebadoh, Pete Townshend, and more.…

Atlanta art rockers' fifth album is their most defiant yet
            by Chad Radford
Nearly three years after Halcyon Digest delivered crowd-pleasing permutations of Deerhunter's sound with such songs as "Helicopter," "Revival," and "Desire Lines," the group remains one of the dicier acts on the leading edge of American art rock. Although the group came into its own as an outsider amid Atlanta's garage/punk boon of the early to mid-aughts, Deerhunter's penchant for crafting singularly noisy and melodic avant-garde rock has been its defining trait from the very beginning.…

May 5, 2013 - The inaugural Shaky Knees Music Festival took place this past weekend in the Historic Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park. With three separate stages and a 28-band lineup that included Band of Horses, the Lumineers, Drive-By Truckers, and Dr. Dog, the persistent downpour did little to dissuade fans from donning their rain parkas and Wellingtons and trekking around in the mud for the two-day event.…

Underground icon's second book answers rock's existential questions
            by Wyatt Williams
About one-third the way into Ian Svenonius' second book, Supernatural Strategies for Making a Rock 'n' Roll Group, he implies a serious question: Why even bother starting a rock 'n' roll group anymore? Svenonius argues that the goals most commonly associated with rock 'n' roll success — fame, money, sex — actually come quite easier in other professions.…

Drummer John Densmore puts Jim Morrison's legacy on trial with 'Unhinged' memoir
            by Chad Radford
In October 1968, the Buick Motor Company paid the American rock 'n' roll group the Doors $75,000 to use the song "Light My Fire" in a commercial for a new luxury car, the Opel. For drummer John Densmore, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, and guitarist Robby Krieger, the deal was simply a way of getting paid for their song.…

When it comes to a music event, Atlanta prefers extreme sizes. Shows in venues?…

Daniel Bailey doesn't seem to be interested in taking any downtime. Between his duties with scruffy, math-focused outsiders Faun and a Pan Flute and Babar, Bailey moonlights as Carey, a solo project that intersects modern classical, krautrock, prog, and psych rock.…

You may not know his name, but you most certainly know his work, be it the cover art for any number of Pink Floyd albums, or records by Black Sabbath, the Who, Styx, Ween, or Yes.…

I stopped by Criminal Records last night to find that pallets upon pallets of Record Store Day releases are piling up in the back room, waiting to be unleashed this Saturday, April 20. This is the gold that backs up the money!
