Maybe even run this line a few blocks farther up north from the Ga. State station to Piedmont and Auburn, so that it connects with the streetcar line that's currently under construction.

Having the shuttle leave from underground allows the buses to avoid a very congested part of downtown.

Having MARTA go by Turner Field would have added significant costs since it would have had to leave the cheaper Rail ROW and do an expensive cross over or under I-20.

I don't think anybody is blaming MARTA for not building rail lines to big developments— more mad at the city for not pressing developers for building transit into their projects. Its insane that the new airport terminal is another shuttle ride away from hartsfield, that atlantic station isn't slated for any transit (that i know of), and that we're seriously considering building another football stadium off the path of a train.

Why doesn't anyone ever get pissed that when the city decided to build a new stadium for the Olympics (that they knew would be used for the Braves in perpetuity), they didn't build it near a MARTA station? It's backwards to be down on MARTA for not spending hundreds of millions to build a station with a primary purpose of serving sporadic special events, when the city had an open-slate option to build closer to a station when they built the new one in the 1990s.

I can see it now - in the 2030s, after the Falcons have moved half a mile north and farther from the Dome station, people like you guys will complain about why MARTA doesn't build a line to that too.

Logically minded people would stop repeating "facts" they've heard from their friends at backyard BBQ and do an ounce of research on their own. Here's a bit of homework for you: go get the raw* data on the number of passenger miles for MARTA rail and bus service.

Lets do the math, home attendance was 2,372,940 at an avg ticket price of $17.05, equals $404,458.00 in 1 cent marta tax, if each person spends a conservative $15 at the stadium, that brings in $355,941.00 in marta tax. If just 1/3 take marta to the game, that brings in $1,957,000.oo in marta fares.

Thats a grand total of $2,717,399.00 in revenue to marta per year, against a cost of $969,000.00 to operate the shuttle, leaves marta a handsome profit of$1,748,399.00.

I see empty bus after empty bus clogging the streets, day after day.

Please remember the people who ride the braves shuttle had to pay the standard fare to get to the shuttle, and the trains and shuttles are full. Also, the shuttle riders are buying $10 hot dogs at turner field bringing in plenty of cash to the city!

Sounds like typical suburban republican mentality to me, i.e., oppose anything in the city that doesn't directly affect and benefit them.

North suburbanite: "I am strongly against paying for any mass transportation that helps poorer people get around our sprawling city but I sure love using mass transportation that helps me get to the airport quicker/easier/cheaper."

As a side note, the fact that MARTA rail doesn't even go to Turner Field is a shame.
Charge what the shuttle costs to run, $5 or whatever. They can sit on the Grady curve for all I care and pay scary people $10 to park their car.

Kill the streetcar and rededicate to building proper bike lanes and finishing the beltline.
Everything this city does is half-assed and borderline retarded.
