I enjoy going to Cobb Sierra Club Meetings where there is an absence of misleading statements.
For instance, this comment is far from the truth, "This project list is primarily a business-as-usual sprawl-inducing road program,” said Georgia Chapter Director Colleen Kiernan."
The asphalt component is about maintaining and tweaking NOT constructing roads.

Vox, I agree. One of the volunteer promotional TSPLOST speakers came to one of our neighborhood meetings and cited a company - though one of my neighbors who was involved tangentially in the company's final decision pointed out that it wasn't traffic, that all along we were largely being used as a bargaining chip by that company to draw a better deal for where they went.

Since I don't think the net effect of this tax and the projects they say they will build is positive, I don't see much downside to it failing.

This "you'll never get a better chance" stuff is bothering me. The state economically lives or dies with Metro Atlanta. For a long time it has sucked from the metro area's economic overflow, doling out bits and pieces of money and projects for the metro area's transit needs, grabbing the rest to build really nice roads with nice box girder bridges between small towns.

Everyone seems to be saying tax yourselves to get a bad deal as to what is really needed - not enough transit.

Regardless of how well meaning and substantively correct Sierra Club is, their position reeks of complete naivete about political reality, especially in a conservative state. No one ever gets 100% of what they want in a democracy, and in a place as rabidly right wing as Georgia, the fact that the plan has any transit at all (let alone 40%) is a big step forward.

Seems to me with Atlanta's higher base of tourism/convention/shopping/entertainment/dining venues the COA would account for a far higher proportion of the 1% tax generation vs. its share of the population.

Ummmm..... only 40% of it goes to transit so that's worse than $0 going to transit if it failed. Nitwits.

You'd normally expect the Sierra Club, which for years has been among the most vocal proponents of new transit in auto-dependent metro Atlanta, to not embrace a measure that would raise billions of dollars for roads and a continued northern march of sprawl style development even though it "promised" to provide a smaller amount of funds for ill defined or underfunded transit projects. In this case, thankfully, you'd be correct.

Consider it a campaign where the few independent organizations reach the same conclusion, albeit for entirely different yet similar reasons.
