My understanding is that this is indeed an issue and may fall under expanded readings of the equal protection clause. If I'm incorrect and no one cares then let me know.

No one -- and I mean literally no one (not even the most radical people I've ever spoken to or met) -- is advocating that specific religious organizations would be required to perform same-sex marriages in conflict with their religious doctrines. It certainly isn't part of the ruling that the Supreme Court is reviewing.

For what its worth, I'm fine with gay unions and certainly advocate equal protection under the law, but do feel uneasy about Federal overreach.
