      <![CDATA[Joe, you're mostly correct but MARTA did try to turn the Beltline into a busway, which once put in place almost certainly would have turned into a busway + HOV and then eventually into just another ever widening highway.

      <![CDATA[I'm much more interested in using the rail corridor for 22 miles of in-town rapid transit than 22 miles of streets with limited car access. There are easier and cheaper options for livable streets with car-lite sections -- and quicker to achieve except for shortsighted and weak leadership.

      <![CDATA[when you put a streetcar on a carless rail corridor, its not exactly the addition of streets, is it?<br>
<br>
QM: TSPLOST itself was a plan B funding mechanism given the TAD for the beltline took a hit in the rel estate crash. I think most transpo enthusists want as many funding plans operating in parallel s the city/region can muster.

      <![CDATA[The key is for state legislators, city council members, etc. to hear frequently from constituents that they want transit. When they start to worry about losing votes in their district over lack of transit progress, good things will start to happen.<br>
