It seems that we operate from a different set of assumptions.

You seem to believe the information that you get from various news sources and that everything the city does is on the level.

I, on the other hand, having known elected officials, high ranking and mid-level administrators, contractors large and small, as well as rank and file employees in and around City Hall for more than 25 years, know that it's about getting money out the door.

@kiteless- in many areas the ROW is pretty narrow and would have to criss-cross over the transit ROW making a potentially dangerous crossings if it were on the other side. There has to be some pretty specific angles used for a bike path to cross over transit tracks safely.

The typical section is supposed to be 14 foot with 2ft buffers on each side for a total of 18ft (you can see these 2ft buffer areas wherever there are connections) I assume this will eventually be phased in as transit comes on board as the site conditions will change in many areas.

But the better question would be are there plans to widen the path already?

@Tyler re: taxed areas: I understand that, all I was saying is that limiting another sales tax to the City limits alone would not create enough money for these transit projects. The city's population doubles to 800K 9-5 Mon-Fri every week, but I really don't think even that would create enough revenue to build these streetcar routes, much less operate and maintain them as well.

@kiteless - So the whole entire Beltline right of way should have been paved over to accommodate all those bicyclists, pedestrians, dogs, etc when it's only really a concern less than 10% of time? If you want you could contact Perkins+Will and ask why they didn't just design the whole thing as one giant concrete highway path.

the city already leans on these students to do all kinds of studies and proposals. but they're still students, and studies have to come from more professional environments - usually the same students with a career and a few years experience under their belt, working for a licensed firm

the structural engineers at tech might design buildings but the plans are still going to be redone by a licensed professional engineer

CL should go back and do an interview with all of those advocates of 'shoot it down and gold will magically rain from the sky'.
We aren't getting money from the Fed - in case anyone noticed, they are cutting not adding.
These routes aren't getting built anytime in the next 5 years unless the state authorizes Atlata/Fulton/Deklab to go it alone on another TSPLOST. There is no magical pot of gold.

But yes I agree a Marietta Street route that connects with a 10th street and North Ave routes would be beneficial grid of streetcar networks to help the transit-deficient WestSide. With further potential for connecting to Atlantic Station and the Arts Center.

@Atlantateer - just because 400K live in the City of Atlanta doesn't mean that only 400K will be the only ones spending money on a sales tax in Altanta. EVERYONE who spends money in Atlanta would be contributing to a penny sales tax - which funding transit would be more of an equitable benefit than a stadium.

And this 1W route needs to go along Marietta, not Luckie, IMO. Marietta still has the streetcar-pedestrian scale buildings, and it would build on the revitalization and new developments happening north of there.

Why did Invest Atlanta authorize the money if the TAD dollars "are designed to redevelop blighted areas by issuing bonds which are paid off with increases in property tax revenue?" Aren't many of the transit miles not in those TADs?

And doesn't the fact that Atlanta is getting these transit goodies without passing the TSPLOST reaffirm that rejecting that tax was highly appropriate?
