Exhibition of self-taught artists, showcasing the work of Nellie Mae Rowe, Mose Tolliver, Leroy Almon, Linda Anderson, Capt. William Jordan and more. More than 25 years have passed since the explosion of interest in contemporary folk art, leaving us now with a plethora of faux folk art and a shortage of significant work by the early, authentic creators in this field of art. These works represent creative expression in its most direct and uninhibited form. Not only are the works unique and original but the ingenuity, wit and reverence of their creators has developed in small communities across the American South, often outside the influence of art movements or academic circles.
