An Evening with Ray Lamontagne: The Ouroboros Tour 2016

Raspy-voiced singer and songwriter Ray LaMontagne promises to play his entire sixth album Ouroboros in order, the way he wants it heard. Backing him are members of My Morning Jacket whose Jim James co-produced the project. It’s a druggy flurry of somewhat retro psychedelic folk/blues/rock balancing delicate musings against swirling, acid-drenched guitars and sounds closer to early Pink Floyd than anything in LaMontagne’s more soulful catalog. How old fans will follow for a ride on this space rock ship is unclear, but it’s a radical and welcome departure from his more commercial, less boundary pushing material.
