Athens PopFest

After a one-year hiatus due to financial concerns amidst the economic collapse, Athens Popfest returned in full force last weekend with over 60 bands playing throughout this five-day festival. Held at local Athens venues the 40 Watt and Caledonia Lounge, Popfest played host to an eclectic range of bands ranging from influential rockers Mission of Burma and The Wedding Present to Elephant 6 associates Apples in Stereo and Circulatory System. The headliners themselves were enough to turn heads, let alone the onslaught of lesser-known bands that were downright fantastic, including Japanese indie-pop group Elekibass and Athens vets Casper & the Cookies.
