Athens in the summertime is always a nice place to visit. Most of the college kiddies have evacuated, and the ones that stick around are the cooler and legitimately interesting ones. So what better time to host AthFest? Since 1997, the annual weekend-long music and arts fair has been a downtown celebration where Georgia music is the guest of honor, all the while channeling much needed dollar bills into the local economy. Outdoor stages, an artists market, and KidsFest are all part of the deal, along with more than 150 bands. Atlas Sound, Elf Power, the Glands, and Reptar are among the heavy hitters on the bill. Free to attend the fest; $20 wristbands for unlimited access to individual club shows.
