Barbecue, beers, and beats all around the city

The city of Atlanta is blessed with an abundance of record stores. The following is a list of CL-approved best bets for Record Store Day happenings this Sat., April 20. Times and performers are shuffling around every day, so check online for updates.


Criminal Records

Closing an hour earlier than normal (open 10 a.m.-8 p.m.), Criminal will host an after-hours show featuring von Grey, Christ, Lord, Mood Rings, and more. The only way to get in is by purchasing an RSD release by one (or all three) of the abovementioned bands.


DBS Sounds

Riverdale’s DBS Sounds features sets by Shawty Lo, Papoose, and more to be announced, plus a massive barbecue cookout.


Decatur CD

Decatur CD will host a live rooftop performance by the El Caminos, and will most likely be serving higher-quality beers to customers.


Moods Music

Moods hosts an array of neo-soul vocalists and producers from 1-7 p.m., including Algebra, Heston, Khari Simmons, Julie Dexter, the Endangered, Rhonda Thomas, Carmen Rodgers, Al Smith, Micah Freeman, and more.


Wax ‘n’ Facts

Touting the largest bill for in-store performances, Wax ‘n’ Facts crams a full day of live acts into the already-packed space. Kenny Howes, living legend of power pop, headlines. And don’t forget about the epic $1 CD sidewalk sale behind the store.

Carmen - 4 p.m.

The Head - 5 p.m.

Paul Melancon & the New Insecurities - 6 p.m.

Wuxtry

Although Wuxtry hasn’t scheduled any live performances, it will be carrying the RSD titles. Expect refreshments and an unrivaled stock of records, CDs, and more from the underdog of Georgia record stores.


Fantasyland Records

360 Pharr Rd. 404-237-3193. www.fantasylandrecords.com.

Fantasyland won’t be hosting any live performances, but the store is stacked with the RSD exclusive titles, along with a bigger than normal selection of used CDs and LPs. Lots of promotional giveaways too, and the doors are opening at 10 a.m. (an hour earlier than usual).
