Best beatmaker-turned-boss: Mike Will Made It

Staff Pick

For 23-year-old producer Mike Will Made It, nothing says success like having Diddy talk mega-shit on your behalf. But after his swaggering introduction on Will's recently released Est. in 1989, Pt. 2 mixtape, the music speaks, swells, and throbs for itself. After gaining entry into the game as a Marietta high school student producing hood classics for Gucci Mane, Mike Will quickly rose through the ranks to graduate magna come loudly in 2012. Check the recent résumé — from a chart-topping bass ballad ("Turn Off the Lights") backing Future's Auto-Tune croon to the experimental club banger ("Bands a Make Her Dance") that gave Juicy J commercial radio play. At an age when most beatmakers are still seeking apprenticeships, Mike Will is already CEO of his own team of producers and songwriters (Ear-Drummers Entertainment). Look out Diddy, he could be signing your checks before you know it.
