Back in the early ’80s when he was just starting out in the nightclubs of Atlanta, TINSLEY ELLIS would dig into a long solo on a fast blues song while he strolled around the club in his snakeskin slippers. He’d eventually walk outside, never missing a note. He might have been smoking a cigarette for all you knew, be-cause time seemed to slow to a crawl. But eventually the crowd in the back would start applauding, and that signaled he was back inside, still playing biting blues licks on his Stratocaster. Ellis hit a creative peak on last year’s Moment of Truth. “In the past five years, no one has released more consistently blues albums than Atlanta’s Tinsley Ellis,” raved Billboard. Just call him Atlanta’s pied piper of the blues. www.tinsleyellis.com.
