Best Coffeehouse for Entertainment

JAVA MONKEY is more than just a comfy place to relax with a late-night cup o' joe. Aside from the usual singer/songwriter suspects, the arty yet unpretentious venue also features national touring performers, jazz and blues acts and freeform improv. Weekly spoken-word performances hosted by Kodac Harrison showcase an array of beat poets, artists and, on occasion, even madmen. And established musicians frequently choose the Monkey's intimate confines to test new material with little or no advance warning.

425 Church St., Decatur. 404-378-5002.
