Best Cuban

LAS PALMERAS is overdue the top award for its consistent serving of the city's best homestyle Cuban dishes. Dirt cheap and served by a friendly staff (including a woman with a compulsion to comment on your mood), the food is extremely popular with folks in the immediate neighborhood but deserves wider attention. The restaurant's version of fried chicken is especially popular, but we love the masitas de puerco -- chunks of roasted pork under mojo with onions.
