We call it a dive because it hasn't been fixed up in forever, the domestic beer is served in bottles and the clientele is decidedly blue-collar, but Morris Restaurant and Lounge is neither depressing nor threatening. Kirkwood's oldest black-owned business (perhaps its oldest altogether), the Morris has been serving up cheap drinks and good vibes for nearly 40 years. Its brick façade suggests a funeral home and the interior resembles a short-order diner, but it's the people who make this a fun hangout. The Morris family is courteous and inviting, and regular patrons aren't shy about coaxing newcomers onto the dance floor. The menu is limited to wings and burgers, the music is old-school, the carpet is worn and the ambiance is strictly no-frills. But the Morris is a laid-back joint for friendly people to have a good time. 2254 Oakview Road. 404-378-9262.
