OK, we admit it. We worried about the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival. It was ambitious, totally different from anything Atlanta had seen before and difficult to wrap our brains around as a result. In a town where food festivals have meant one thing only — a collection of chefs doling out tastes under a tent — AF&W promised a university-degree-worthy series of seminars, dinners and events. And dang, did it deliver. Seminars from the region's best chefs and experts taught us everything from how to make a mean Coca-Cola cocktail to how Van Winkle bourbon is made to how to make breakfast on your patio grill. The tasting tents had bites from some of the country's best chefs, and showcased our local talent to the masses of national media that descended on Atlanta for the event. Most gratifying was hearing outsiders say, "Man, I had no idea Atlanta's food scene was so amazing!" Everyone crowed about how they couldn't wait for next year. We can't, either. atlfoodandwinefestival.com.
