Best hope for Atlanta gridlock: Regional transportation tax

Staff Pick

After three years of trying and failing — and failing and failing — the Georgia General Assembly this year finally passed a REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION TAX proposal that could raise $634 million a year for much-needed road and (God willing) transit projects. Sure, if approved by voters, the 1 cent sales tax won't solve all our mobility problems — or pay for every rail line and interchange wonks have proposed. Hell, it wouldn't even help cash-strapped MARTA. But it's better than continuing to get schooled by Charlotte and Nashville — and wasting hours of our lives in traffic.
