Best Local Columnist: Bill Shipp

Staff Pick

Seventy-two-year-old BILL SHIPP has been kicking ass for more than five decades. His column is syndicated in 85 Georgia newspapers and regularly beats the AJC on important statewide stories. He started his career at UGA in 1952 by exposing a local whorehouse and the school’s rundown veteran’s housing. Shipp then got booted from the school paper for advocating in favor of law school integration. After four decades with the Atlanta Constitution, he started his own political newsletter, put it online, and then sold it. And even now, he’s still so aggressive that Gov. Sonny Perdue’s staff won’t speak to him.
