Other cities have aquariums and battlefields, but none but Atlanta can claim the Cyclorama. Even the name is cool — as it should be for an attraction that claims to be the largest oil painting in the world. This circular Civil War Museum depicts the Battle of Atlanta, but even restless kids who don't give a flip about history will be transfixed by the seamless, rotating vista that's part gory diorama and part mural, complete with music, sound effects and narration. The museum also includes a period locomotive and two levels of Civil War memorabilia, period paintings and photos. Best of all, it's cheap: only $10 for adults, with free parking. And when you're finished, walk up the hill to see the actual earthworks from the battle itself. 800-C Cherokee Ave. 404-658-7625. atlantacyclorama.org.
