Best Potential for Loft Development

iXL headquarters

1600 Peachtree St.

Just a little over a year ago, iXL was one of the high-rollers in the Internet boom. It launched a flashy $11 million renovation of the Equifax building on Peachtree Street. Custom-designed fixtures lit up the gym, the bar and the rooftop party space, complete with movie screen. The company's logo was splayed in letters bigger than a Cadillac for all northbound commuters to see on I-75 and I-85. Then the boom when bust. The first round of 350 layoffs hit in September 2000. That was followed two months later by a layoff of 850 employees. Last month, iXL merged with Scient, which is based in New York. The Atlanta contingent is now contained on two floors, leaving three newly refurbished floors vacant and ready for habitation.
