When the city announced plans for an anti-graffiti task force, many folks — including CL — wondered how the effort would change the gritty urban landscape we've come to know and love. In late May, an unidentified artist wondered the same thing on walls along DeKalb Avenue. Next to several painted-over tags, he or she used a stencil and spray paint to pose the question "Is this better?" with an arrow pointing to the grey splotch of cover-up paint. No matter where you stand on the graffiti issue, the graphic commentary was pretty damn clever. But, more importantly, it challenged the viewer to decide whether bare grey cement is actually preferable to a graffiti artist's unsolicited handiwork.
