Best Restaurant With a Social Conscience: Cafe 458

Staff Pick

With many restaurants becoming more active members of the community, we wanted to give a good citizen’s award this year to encourage the do-gooders in our midst. No other restaurant deserves to be recognized more than CAFÉ 458, a place that exists both for our brunching pleasure and for the good of the community. All proceeds go to Samaritan House, an organization that helps homeless men and women reach self-sufficiency. When the café isn’t serving up some of the best brunch around, like Carolina barbecue pork eggs Benedict, it serves meals all week long to the homeless community. Be sure to tip well — the all-volunteer staff donates gratuities as well as their time. If only all charity was so tasty.
