It's a sad fact that Atlantans sometime take homegrown talent for granted. Case in point: soul singer Algebra Blessett. For more than a decade, Algebra's been treating the city — and the world — to damn-near-flawless performances and tons of great songs, such as the recently released hip-hop-flavored track "I Ain't No Joke." Earlier this year, she was even handpicked by Grammy-winning jazz bassist/vocalist Esperanza Spalding to join voices on the tune "Black Gold," which is featured on Spalding's acclaimed Radio Music Society LP. Still, Algebra has never seemed to garner the corresponding local accolades or appropriate attention from Atlanta-based industry bigwigs. It's time to offer proper props to one of the city's best and brightest. Let's hope everyone else lines up to give credit where it's due. www.twitter.com/yesitsalgebra.
