Best Theater Company

7 Stages

1105 Euclid Ave.

For more than 20 years, 7 Stages has taken more risks than any other Atlanta theater, with artistic director Del Hamilton moving headlong where other playhouses fear to tread. The past season was a representative year, featuring shows that moved and astonished (Sweat), shows that baffled and perplexed (Jim Grimsley's In Berlin) and one that did both at once (Black Battles With Dogs, starring Ism'il Ibn-Conner, pictured). What's more, 7 Stages balances neighborhood with global concerns, exploring contemporary themes with both international artists and such homegrown talents as Grimsley, Rebecca Ranson and the exuberant Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta.
