Best Theatrical Mad Scientists

The impressive thing about OUT OF HAND THEATER isn't just the company's youth and energy. It's the troupe's willingness to do apparently anything to test fresh theatrical ideas. Their show 30 Below began with frisking and interrogation of the audience, à la the airport, and ended with the dance moves from Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Their experiments continued with the freakshow Live Nude Bouffons and the outdoor wedding staging of Big Love. In their first years, artistic director Maia Knispel and the company's other Merry Pranksters have laid an original foundation to build on for rich, provocative theater.
