Best Theatrical Makeover (Cosmetic): The New American Shakespeare Tavern

Staff Pick

OK, no one’s going to mistake the still-seedy stretch of Peachtree Street for Stratford-on-Avon. Nevertheless, THE NEW AMERICAN SHAKESPEARE TAVERN’s $300,000-plus Elizabethan-era façade goes a long way toward reclaiming the block from the neon glare of its XXX-rated neighbor, Inserection. The spiffy redesign features lead-glass windows, stately doors and a balcony above Peachtree Street, allowing the popular theater’s cunningly old-fashioned exterior to hint at the sense of play going on inside.
