Perfectly pulled espresso and cortados? Check. Flaky pastries and decadent fried chicken biscuits in the a.m.? Check. Lunch anchored by a plate of "super food" (typically lean steak, a power grain, and a bevy of beautiful veggies)? Check. Dinnertime treats like a gorgeous spread of house-made charcuterie and pickles, or a decadently deviant octopus sausage with crab roe butter over sourdough? Checkity check. Oh, and don't forget the excellent cocktails and a wine list that is simply the most awesome list in Atlanta for anyone who digs Riesling. Or Alsatian whites. Or, heck, Burgundy or old Barolo or the legendary López de Heredia. Can you tell we're excited? If you've ever been to this bakery/bar/restaurant/coffee and lunch counter, you know exactly where we're talking about, because there's no other place in Atlanta that can pull off a checklist like that. For the rest of you, we'll let the cat out of the bag: this one place that does it all is Empire State South. Executive chef Ryan Smith and crew crank out just about everything they do with incredibly consistent quality and verve. Empire State South is exactly the type of we-can-do-anything stalwart that has made Atlanta the focal point of dining in the American South. Now if only they could tackle transportation infrastructure ...
