Best Wine Bar: Krog Bar

Staff Pick

The wine list is well-cultivated Italian-Spanish, with a dash of French. The menu is sophisticated-yet-simple Mediterranean finger food. And the mood is modern hunting lodge, with amber orbs that cast a sepia glow on walls of glass and wood. Did we mention the celebrity chef? “Iron Chef” champion Kevin Rathbun's KROG BAR is everything we could want in a wine-swilling outpost. The posh tin shed is warm and intimate, with a mere 35 seats inside and another 20 on the patio. Selections are arranged by price and filed under easy-to-grasp descriptions (”soft, chocolatey Syrah,” “slightly sweet bubbles.”). And with 40 varietals available by the glass, ranging from $6.50 to $13.50, it's pretty affordable, too. Krog Bar's unique selection of bubblies, including the Mont Marcal rose cava, serves as a lovely companion to a plate of paper-thin Serrano, a cured hunk of which sits exaltedly on the bar. Just like in Seville.
