Best wine shop and potential liquor store

Staff Pick

After opening in March, H&F Bottle Shop had a superb wine selection, house-made mixers, stylish glassware and everything one would need to make a stiff drink — except the liquor. A month passed and then another, and still the city did not approve its liquor license. Thankfully, the Peachtree Battle store was finally approved in September. So where's the booze? Unfortunately, the license is still sitting in City Hall waiting on a signature. But we have faith. If the liquor selection falls in line with the wines, we're in for a treat. Even without the hard stuff, we love this place: The store's strength lies in its expert staff, who can recommend the perfect bottle of wine in your price range to impress a date. Bottle Shop allows patrons to take their favorite restaurant bitters and cocktail mixers home, like jarred whiskied cherries or the Bloody Mary mix ($8/quart) with hand-milled tomatoes. Colorful labels pop against the dark wood shelves and apothecary drawers, and a masculine chandelier anchors a four-seat table. There's even a small taxidermy goat behind the counter. Cheers to that! 2357 Peachtree Road. 404-841-4070.
