Briza is located in Midtown's Renaissance Hotel in the space where Pacci used to be. The kitchen is headed up by Jamie Falvo, a CA transplant who enjoyed a very brief run on season TK of "Top Chef." There are gimmicks galore, a sense of fun to the food that would be inspiring if any of it actually tasted good. But hijinks like chicken powder, blue cheese jelly, and salmon with lemon pudding all taste just about as bad as they sound. The most important ingredients — care, focus, and quality — are most certainly missing. The space is beautiful, but dishes like these are too high concept to be left in the hands of bored cooks who don't care.
