Lube job. Applications are being accepted through Nov. 9 for preliminary rounds of “Luby’s Sound Decision Talent Search,” a battle of the bands contest. The grand prize includes 24 hours of recording time — including a producer and engineer — at Sound Decision Studios. SlangerBanger was the first-round winner of the series, which culminates Dec. 14. See www.sounddecisionstudios.com for details.

Dog days. Be the first to see a CD-ROM recorded at the 2001 Dogwood Festival, featuring video from Kevn Kinney and the Georgia Satellites, and sign up to be a volunteer at next year’s event Oct. 18 at Park Tavern. Carolyn Aiken hosts the event, which runs 6-8 p.m. Those who just want the CD, which features all local acts, can click on www.dogwood.org. Proceeds from the disc go to Camp Sunshine, a retreat for kids with cancer.
