Cakes & Ale is devoted to sustainable agriculture -- it buys local produce, humanely raised meats and un-endangered fish. Such practices add up to noticeably improved flavor. Chef/owner Billy Allin was formerly a sous chef for Scott Peacock at Watershed and the influence shows. The restaurant moved in 2011 to airier digs on Decatur Square, and brought on David Sweeney of Dynamic Dish fame to run the lunch service at the attached new bakery. Sweeney is turning out some of the most soul satisfying food in town - try the grain bowl or one of the intensely flavored soups.
