Dunaire is a beautiful metro Atlanta neighborhood, tucked away in a small forest, just off Memorial Drive in the heart of DeKalb County. Our neighborhood is known for friendly neighbors, community spirit, deep diversity, and its peaceful character.
Our part of town was especially hard hit during the economic downturn, but our neighborhood has not only stood its ground - it thrived!
In the past few years, in the face a city-wide foreclosure crisis, high unemployment, a DeKalb County budget crisis, a DeKalb County school system crisis, and a record hot summer, our neighbors came together, organized, and have made Dunaire an even better place to live than it was five years ago.
We organized a communications committee and put together a Dunaire Neighbors Facebook page and a neighborhood blog (www.DunaireDispatch.com). We built the Dunaire Community Organic Garden to give our neighbors a place to grow vegetables and as a place for neighbors to work together and get to know each other. We organized an annual Dunaire International Fall Festival where neighbors of the many cultures represented in our neighborhood come together to share a good time, some horseback riding, and some great pot-luck food. We refused to listen to complaints that there "just isn't anywhere to eat around here," and organized a very successful monthly event, Dunaire Dines Out, where we all meet up at a very local restaurant to discover new cuisines and support local businesses.
And, to top it all off ... Dunaire is home to one of the biggest and best Christmas displays in all of metro Atlanta
, and was recently featured on PBA's "Christmas Around Atlanta" show.
I'm very, very proud of the neighborhood I live in and the hard work that my neighbors have put in to make it such a community. Please find attached a few photos that I think show just some of what's GOOD about my 'hood.
