See & Do - Classical Music: Holst’s The Planets”” August 01 2007

Sat., Aug. 4

Great shows don’t need celebrities to have stars. For the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s performance of Gustav Holst’s legendary suite “THE PLANETS” on Sat., AUG. 4, breakthrough images of Saturn, Mars and other out-of-this-world wonders courtesy of NASA accompany the seven movements. Holst’s masterpiece doesn’t include a Pluto-dedicated movement (or Earth, as a matter of fact) as the piece predates the planet’s discovery by nearly 20 years. But now that Pluto’s not a planet anymore, it’s as though he’d known all along. $20-$38. 8 p.m. Atlanta Symphony Hall, Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-5000. www.atlantasymphony.com.
