Johnson weak?: Maybe it's been difficult for the media to adjust to the loss of stories generated by nutcase McKinney, but most folks are quite happy with Johnson as a reliable Democratic rep.
What kind of criteria are you supporting?: Isn't it interesting how you recruited the no-experience rich white boy (Michael Coles) and he lost. THEN, you recruited the no-experience rich white boy Cliff Oxford and he lost. Now here you are pushing for another no-experience rich white boy in Jim Butler to run for senate. Is THAT the criteria for you and the democratic party for statewide office: to lose? I'm white and Vernon has my vote.
Negative, negative, negative!: This article is more vitriolic and spiteful than anything I've seen the AJC run in ages. Give Vernon a chance. I reside in DeKalb and am very happy with the CEO. We have low taxes, low crime, and a great sense of community here. Because of his leadership, we have sidewalks, trails, paved streets and trees!
To bring up alleged incidents that were never proven is dishonest and hits below the belt. Surely you can do better than this. Let's rise above the muck and be positive for a change.
Give the man a chance! We need someone like him who believes in the rights of ordinary citizens and will fight for those rights in the Senate.
Now I Get It: John, you have offered the only plausible explanation that I have seen as to why Vernon Jones would even discuss mounting an effort to unseat Chambliss in 2008. Georgia remains a solid Red State. Jones, a black Democrat whose image has been tainted with controversy, would stand absolutely no realistic chance of winning a statewide race against a reasonably popular white Republican incumbent. The embattled CEO could, however, pose a much greater threat to unseat congressional newcomer Hank Johnson in the Fourth District, which consists primarily of Jones-friendly DeKalb County. Thus, I can more readily accept your theory that Vernon is in fact being courted by the GOP to run against Johnson rather than Chambliss next year. If that does happen, I just hope that DeKalb residents are smart enough to see that they are being played for fools and vote accordingly.

errr...: If you don't want AIDS don't have sex, or at least use a condom. I don't think that requires government intervention?
Gov't and AIDS: If the government can step in for malaria, Spanish flu, West Nile virus, ebola and bird flu, they can sure as fuck step in for AIDS. It all comes back to "homosexuality is a sin"...
As far as "don't have sex, or at least use a condom", what about the people who didn't get it through sex -- like tainted blood transfusions before the government was FORCED to start screening the blood banks for communicable diseases? They should've been left to die as well?
Human beings all deserve compassion and treatment from illness. Adding insult to injury by saying: "You got AIDS and it's all your fault!!!" doesn't help anyone, regardless of what they did to get it. Suffering is suffering.

Just sit and cry: When I read this column, I just sat and cried. I came out as a gay man around that time and ALL of the friends I made in the first two years I was out, I watched all of them die.
I really do thank the people of ACT UP for all of their hard work. I was new to the gay life in ATL and was scared to join, but I wanted to. I guess you could say that does not count. But I gave any extra monies and time I had to help those with AIDS. GOD BLESS ALL IN ACT UP. (I wish they would re-form. I would join this time.)
What about the real drug dealer?: It's very troubling that 'our way of life' meaning the black, poor people in the ghetto, trying to get out the best that we can, get into a lot of trouble in the end. But what about the real drug dealer, the supplier? Obviously, they have to get the drugs from somebody or somewhere else. Sometimes we are the "scapegoat".
Real drug dealer?: What about the real drug dealer that spouts rhetoric like "I'm just trying to get out of the ghetto" yet makes no effort to, meanwhile releasing deadly chemicals into homes, destroying lives, and perpetuating the hell of ghetto life? Oh please.
When you have a loaded 9mm, $5,000 in cash and a pound of weed in your car, it's kinda dumb to say "It isn't mine" since that implies that you didn't know of the existence of said items until you were presented with them. Pound of weed = intent to distribute. That means a "real drug dealer".
Thug Life: When you choose to sell the dope you are keeping yourself in the ghetto. When you choose to buy the dope you are keeping yourself in the ghetto.
"real drug dealer": I hope these idiots rot in prison. Real drug dealer.... this guy should've got a real job, but no like the rest of the "white tee" crowd, he chose the quick easy way, good. let's see how quick and easy those next 20 years go by. This real drug dealer will probably be someone's real "girlfriend" in the joint!!! good riddance.
Props to J-Bo: He did the honorable thing by taking the hit and not snitching. Perhaps those that piss on his rep will be equally honorable in respecting his integrity upon completion of his debt to society. To Speakeasy: Just who do you mean by the "White Tee" crowd? It sounds like a gross generalization to me since white t-shirts are as American as your hardly veiled bigotry.
