‘18th Annual Golden Sleaze Awards,’ ‘The law of distraction’

Online responses to Scott Henry’s cover story, “18th Annual Golden Sleaze Awards” and Cliff Bostock’s Headcase column, “[|The law of distraction].”??
18th Annual Golden Sleaze

If Democrats can’t take advantage...: If Democrats can’t take advantage of these republican clowns/nutjobs they deserved to be smacked upside the head with long gym sock filled with old dirty socks.

GOP: The party of angry, close-minded white men: Can anyone fathom how utterly fucked-up this country would be if the south had won the war? Holy crap, it’s bad enough that the south is living in the dark ages, but imagine if all of America was as ass-backwards as Georgia? Scary shit.

The Law of Distraction

The Secret to Snake Handling: Reminds me of the snake handling pew jumping Pentecostals on Sand Mountain. If bad things happen to you, it is because your faith is weak. I saw an employee suffering in the hospital while her preacher, her husband and members of her cult, uh I mean congregation, said it was only because her faith was weak. Turns out the gall bladder full of stones was contributing. A few years later, same thing, except this time it was a nerve pinched by a muscle in her hip.

??
BTW, if you are referring to the Pontiac G6’s given to her audience, that was a promo sponsored by GM, so double bonus for Oprah, she get to give away the cars and GM gets to pay for them. She does a lot of good, as you pointed out, but she has always impressed me as knowing exactly why she was so fabulously wealthy... brains and hard work.

I am so glad you wrote this: I read a lot of business/self help books, and I thought this was about the worst I have read. I’m so glad to see you share my opinion. I’m more comfortable with Robbins, Tracy, Carnegie, etc. of the world who suggest you need to believe you can achieve your goals, and then get off your butt and do something about it.

??
PS Your writing style is wonderful, too.

This is NOT a cultish movie, people!: First off, I did enjoy your article. I have many friends and family and a church who fully support this movie... BUT one should always see both sides to things. For one, the necklace image was way too frequent. YES, there is a lot of focus on material items. But that being said: What is wrong with wanting wealth? There is a hate in this world for people with money and it’s just sad. And NO, I’m not rich. This hatred is just one example of how much hatred there is and how we judge people and never get to know them. It’s just sad!

??
Okay, I’m off the subject. If you actually make it through the entire movie (yes, it’s hard for at least 15 minutes with all the images of that darn necklace) you will hear them speak about what’s really important in life-happiness, love, family, etc. And they do mention taking action, but too many of us don’t! We don’t believe we can have a better life so we don’t take the action to improve our lives.

??
I chose to leave the movie with the good I got from it, as we really need to learn to do with all things in life.
