'Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition'

This is story is quite disappointing. It contains numerous errors (i.e. places currently off limits, effects of the bills, chronology of the bills) that would take far more effort than it is worth to fully enumerate. I have to wonder whether the author bothered to read the legislation about which he writes or the existing statutes that would be modified.

The author also seems complacent in helping Alice Johnson, the sole member of Georgians for Gun Safety, in propagating her hysterics; it is already a crime to discharge a firearm while intoxicated so there is no need to include such language in any bill. Alice Johnson's desire for a training requirement is meant only as a means to prevent Georgians from exercising their rights as guaranteed by the constitution of this state; researchers, such as Dr. John Lott, that have compared states with and without training requirements find that there is no appreciable effect on safety.

Acquiring a Georgia Firearms License by submitting to the required background checks and carrying a weapon as allowed by law IS being responsible. It is taking responsibility for your own safety. If you believe that is "wack-a-doo" then I would direct you to Castle Rock v. Gonzales and DeShaney v. Winnebago County. In those cases the Supreme Court of the United State has set precedent that law enforcement has no duty to protect you. You can call 911, but the police are not obligated to respond to your request for help.

If you think that complying with a criminal is a better alternative, I refer to Desmond Davis who was sentenced to life in prison yesterday for killing a GSU student. The victim gave Davis his money when threatened at gunpoint, but Davis killed the young man anyway. Davis shot the student four times and then three more times while standing over his body.

As a Jewess in the US, I would like to remind all that America wasn't won with a registered gun, and that criminals are stopped by FIREARMS, not by talk. That is why all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!
