See & Do - Dance: Contemporary Dance — Vintage Music February 11 2009

Thurs.-Sat., Feb. 12-14

The Vega String Quartet, Emory University’s quartet-in-residence, and choreographer George Staib of the Emory Dance Program faculty collaborate for CONTEMPORARY DANCE – VINTAGE MUSIC, an evening of dance and live musical accompaniment. Beginning with a lively Bach suite, the concert continues through classic works by Stravinsky and Bartok and finishes with a riveting score by contemporary composer Richard Einhorn. The dances range from solos to larger group works, and they explore themes of discovery, community and individuality. Patrons can up the romantic ante opening night with a pre-show prix-fixe dinner at Café Lily, a chauffeured ride to the performance and a return ride to the restaurant for drinks and dessert. Ticket-holders for the final performance are invited to stay afterward for a special Valentine’s Day reception with the artists featuring champagne, dessert, music and dancing. Contemporary Dance – Vintage Music: Free-$20. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m. Performing Arts Studio, 1804 N. Decatur Road. 404-727-5050. www.arts.emory.edu.
