See & Do - Dance: Shen Yun January 08 2010

Fri.-Sun., Jan. 15-17

SHEN YUN reanimates China’s millennia-old artistic traditions with classical, ethnic, folk and story-based dance in a colorfully choreographed and omnivorous rendition of Eastern culture old and new. A live orchestra accompanies the nearly 20 snazzy new dances and songs. Although the performing arts troupe has been criticized – most vehemently by the Chinese Communist Party – for its practice of falun dafa, a quasi-religion derived from qigong, Buddhist and Daoist principles, the production should be light on political pandering and heavy on whimsical artistry. $39-$120. Fri., 7:30 p.m.; Sat., 2 and 7:30 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. 877-285-2285. www.atlshow.com.
