Was Atlanta truly the City Too Busy to Hate? WAITING TO BE INVITED, S.M. Shephard-Massat’s new play at Theatrical Outfit, depicts four women’s efforts to be among the first African-Americans to dine at a desegregated downtown Atlanta restaurant in 1964. History informs this comedy featuring Donna Biscoe, S. Renee Clark, Marguerite Hannah, Tony Vaughn, Jade Lambert-Smith and Jackie Prucha. Coincidentally, Theatrical Outfit’s Balzer Theatre currently occupies the site of Herren’s Restaurant, Atlanta’s first eatery to voluntarily desegregate in 1963. Through DEC. 3. $16.20-$54.
