The Atlanta-based Weather Channel has taken some hits since a Dec. 21 blog post by its resident climate expert, Dr. Heidi Cullen, that criticized TV meteorologists who challenge the scientific consensus for global warming as a man-made phenomenon. Her statements have been attacked by right-wing media and GOP politicians and even topped the "Threatdown" list on the "Colbert Report."
Meteorologists ... owe it to their audience to distinguish between solid, peer-reviewed science and junk political controversy. If a meteorologist can't speak to the fundamental science of climate change, then maybe the AMS shouldn't give them a Seal of Approval.
-- Heidi Cullen, on the network's One Degree blog
Some "climate expert" on "The Weather Channel" wants to take away certification from those of us who believe the recent "global warming" is a natural process. ... I do not know of a single TV meteorologist who buys into the man-made global warming hype.
-- Birmingham, Ala., meteorologist James Spann, on his blog, which was picked up by the Drudge Report and Fox News
... And the No. 1 threat to America: One Degree, an entire site devoted to the myth of global warming. Hey, weather.com, I can't even trust your five-day forecast of partly cloudy with a chance of showers -- you expect me to believe your 50-year forecast of mostly melting with a chance of apocalypse?
-- Steven Colbert, on Comedy Central's "Colbert Report"
