Afrika Bambaataa’s influence on hip-hop is impossible to overstate. The legendary DJ and turntablist was instrumental in starting numerous rap crews, collaborating with everyone from James Brown to John Lydon, and crystallizing hip-hop as a cultural force with the Universal Zulu Nation. Modern turntable innovators DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist celebrate Bambaataa’s legacy with a tour dubbed “The Renegades of Rhythm,” featuring all vinyl borrowed from Bambaataa’s collection — roughly 40,000 records deep. The show incorporates six turntables and stunning visuals that come courtesy of Ben Stokes.
