For decades, avant-garde guitar/banjo player Eugene Chadbourne has paired himself with some of the world’s most adventurous percussionists, but none of his duos have been as unique as his recent collaborations with Japanese percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani. On the surface, there appears to be a stark contrast between Chadbourne’s countrified experiments and Nakatani’s cerebral jazz leanings. But together, they reach a sublime plateau, conjuring up a blend of Appalachian spirit music that begs to be witnessed when the duo comes to town on Thurs., Nov. 14.
