The last thing you'd expect from a film about rave culture is unapologetic sweetness. But Groove is a study in defied expectations, one minute drowning in a subcultural naivete as it proposes that rave really is the way to heal the planet with good vibes, the next minute this expectation-defying film reveals some of the superficiality and dead-end escapism of the scene, which can suck you in and make you forget there's more to life than designer drugs, good vibes and the beat.
