Get a jump start on Black History Month with Of Ballots Uncast: The African-American Struggle for the Right to Vote. The exhibition focuses on the hindrances that African-Americans faced when trying to exercise their right to vote, granted in 1870. It includes a replica of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, site of “Blood Sunday,” the attack ordered by then-Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace against peaceful marchers attempting the trek from Selma to Montgomery in 1965, and an interactive display of the “Jelly Bean Test.” According to legend, black voters had to correctly guess the number of jelly beans in a jar before being permitted to vote.
