Rural Alabama is full of old barns and hay bales, but that's not all that fills the state's countryside. In 1993, architect and MacArthur Genius Samuel Mockbee founded the Rural Studio in the small town of Newbern to teach students how to create out-of-the-ordinary, modern architecture in disadvantaged areas. CITIZEN ARCHITECT documents the creation of a home for a charismatic, needy client by a group of architecture students led by Jay Sanders, a young teacher at the studio. Besides their story, the film shows the studio's continuation following the death of its founding father, as well as perspectives from a number of architects and artists, including footage of Mockbee himself. $8-$9. Wed.-Thurs., 7:30 p.m. Plaza Theatre, 1049 Ponce de Leon Ave. 404-873-1939. www.plazaatlanta.com.
