Film: Our Folks: Poetic Documentaries About Families

Sat., June 9

Three experimental filmmakers take the emotion-drenched subject of family as their definitive jumping-off points in the Film Love event OUR FOLKS: POETIC DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT FAMILY Sat., JUNE 9, at Eyedrum. Pennsylvania filmmaker LeAnn Erickson's Folk Songs is a poignant reflection on her family history in the Ukraine, while Ariana Gerstein's poetically fragmented Images of Flying and Falling deals with the evanescence of memory and how we order and define family through snapshots and home movies. Atlanta-based filmmaker Niklas Vollmer's Reading the Water: Lectures on Home Video Ecology from the Gulf of ME (pictured) combines documentary and experimental techniques to show the connections and fissures between three generations of men. $5. 8 p.m. 290 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Suite 8. 404-522-0655. www.eyedrum.org.
